What To Do if You’re Involved in a Pedestrian Hit-and-Run

Pedestrian-car accidents are incredibly dangerous. In fact, being hit as a pedestrian is nearly ten times deadlier than being involved in a high-speed crash, and more than 15 times deadlier than the average Texas car accident. Nearly 95% of pedestrian accidents will involve some kind of injury.

Because of how serious these accidents can be, it’s important that you know what to do to keep yourself safe in case of a Texas pedestrian car accident.

  • Call for Help — either call 911 or tell a bystander to call for you

  • Block Traffic — if you can’t move, ask bystanders to block traffic

  • Move to a Safe Place — if you can move, move as far away from traffic as possible

  • Speak to Police — tell emergency responders everything you can remember about the hit-and-run vehicle

  • Seek Medical Attention Immediately — if you are injured in any way, seek medical attention as soon as possible

  • Take Notes — take note of everything you can remember about the vehicle, including color, make, model, and license plate number

  • Gather Evidence — if you can, take pictures of the scene, or ask someone to take them for you

While some accidents happen no matter what we do to prevent them, there are some things you can do as a pedestrian to make Texas pedestrian car accidents less likely. Always follow posted road signs and traffic lights, use crosswalks and sidewalks, and don’t assume that traffic will stop for you. Taking a little extra care when walking near the road might just save your life.
